Information backed-up by first hand view for Irish parliamentarians in East Jerusalem

Jerusalem / Maisa Abu Ghazaleh for PNN - An Irish parliamentary delegation visited Jerusalem and saw first-hand some of the affects of what is currently being debated between the Israelis and Americans: Palestinian home and neighborhood destruction and Israeli settlements.

During the weekend trip the five-member delegation met with Ziad Hammouri, director of the Jerusalem Center for Social and Economic Rights. He delivered information on Israeli violations against the residents of Jerusalem while backing it up with on the ground visuals.

Hammouri escorted the Irish parliamentary delegation to the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood where they visited the solidarity tent that has become the home of the Kurd family.
Umm Kamal Al Kurd and her family were forced from their home at gunpoint. Her husband died shortly after but she has been living in the tent since then. The solidarity tent has been a target of the Israelis who have demolished it several times.

Hammouri told PNN today that the presentation to the delegation included detailed data of breaches by the occupying Israeli administration of the social and economic rights of Jerusalemites. He also outlined Israeli settlement plans and programs. The major threats are currently against the neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah and Al Bustan.
