Head of Hamas political bureau says that resistance to occupation must continue

09.08.09 - 10:58

Gaza / PNN – Khaled Meshal, the head of the Hamas political bureau exiled to Syria, said last night that his party was “eager to confirm reconciliation with the Palestinian resistance, based on an approach that adheres to national principles.”

Meshal told Al Quds, via telephone Saturday night, that a festival organized by the Hamas student movement in the southern Gaza Strip’s Khan Younis was engaged in finding reconciliation with other Palestinian parties.

Said party is Fateh, the Palestinian Authority, with whom the Hamas movement has been at major odds for three years.

"We are trying to reconcile Palestinians and want to get out of the state of division to unite Palestinians to resist the occupation by adhering to our rights."

The Hamas leader continued, "What our people still live in are difficult situations with the aspirations of the Zionists atop us. Our people complain of pain in the short term, but with patience victory is coming, God willing.”

Regarding the ongoing conflict with the Fateh party, Hamas’ Meshal accused PA security services of abuse in the West Bank even though “it is still under occupation." Politically-based arrests of Hamas members by the Palestinian Authority are ongoing.

The headof the political bureau of Hamas added that, “despite the aggression and the siege and the closure of the Gaza Strip border crossings we will continue to fight for our people against the Zionists and those who stand on their side."
