Invitation to embrace cultural heritage and history of civilization in West Bank village

Jaffna / PNN – As part of the events for “Jerusalem as Capital of Arab Culture, 2009,” Jaffna Village has opened its sixth annual festival of Palestinian heritage.

Historical roots are being celebrated by Palestinians from both the West Bank and within Israeli boundaries in the many cultural activities on the agenda. “It’s traditional and reflects the history of the Palestinian people and our cultural heritage,” an attendee said.

Rajai Mansour Awad, a member of the committee that has organized the festival, said today, “The festival is very important for its ability to demonstrate the authenticity of the heritage of the Palestinian people, the long and shared history. The colors and tradition are alive in the Palestinian art from Jaffna, Beit Sahour, Nazareth and the Galilee.”

Awad added that the festival is continuing for three days in a setting that was not chosen in a vacuum. “This village contains many archaeological sites that are crucial and it is important to highlight their beauty.”

It is worth noting that the village is located 10 kilometers north of the city of Ramallah and has a population of 1,600 people. Jaffna is famous for its apricot orchards.
