| Bil’in / PNN - Shortly after 2:30 am the Israeli military again invaded Bil'in, a village known for its nonviolent resistance to the Wall. The contingent of Israeli forces early this morning consisted of five jeeps and a military truck. Their target was a 16 year old boy. Hamaza Burnat was not at home at the time of the invasion. This is the second time this week that the Israeli army has raided his family’s house. Bil'in is a small village of 1,700 inhabitants near Ramallah in the West Bank. For nearly three months Israeli forces have been conducting night raids several times a week, arresting more than 20 people, mostly teenagers. Several young men and adults have been rounded up by Israeli forces and imprisoned as a deterrent, residents say, to active participation in the nonviolent resistance movement that demonstrates weekly against the Wall and settlements. The western Ramallah village is also known for a yearly international conference on nonviolence. Iyad Burnat, of the Popular Committee against the Wall said today, “We call on all the supporters to help us in our struggle by organizing demonstrations and sending messages to the Israeli embassies demanding to stop these night raids in Bil'in. Our children cannot sleep at night because of sound bombs and gas being fired by the invading forces. This village is under curfew, we need all your help to be able to lead a normal life again.” |
