Al Aqsa Foundation for Islamic Heritage finds ancient cemetery where Israelis are digging for sewage

Jerusalem / PNN – An ancient Islamic cemetery has been found in Jaffa, a Palestinian city within Israeli boundaries.

The Al Aqsa Foundation for Islamic Heritage announced today that a cemetery was located south of Siksik mosque where the Israeli Antiquities Authority is digging. The Israelis are preparing to implement a project to extend the sewage system.

The Al Aqsa Foundation sent an urgent letter to the mayor of Tel Aviv warning against the violation of the sanctity of the cemetery and those buried there.

Lawyer Mohammed Igbarieh issued the letter after several members of the Al Aqsa Foundation found graves with bones and skulls buried in accordance to Islamic law, which means facing the direction of Mecca.

The Israeli Antiquities Authority recently conducted excavations at the site of the cemetery leading to the uncovering of several graves and bones. The Israelis intend to dig five meters for the sewage system that runs through the Tel Aviv municipality. They are removing the graves.

Igbarieh, the lawyer for the Al Aqsa Foundation, wrote in the letter: “I would like you to respect the Islamic cemetery and the graves that have been uncovered. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the cemetery is a holy place for Muslims, and must be respected.”

A response from the Israelis has not yet been received.
