| Leftists ask that Abbas not participate in tripartite meeting at UN general assembly this week |

| Ramallah / PNN – With a tripartite meeting upcoming between President Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama, many critics are asking the Palestinians to bow out. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is describing the meeting as being in the service of Israeli and US interests. A spokesperson for the leftist party said today that by participating in the tripartite meeting, Abbas is legitimizing the positions of the occupying administration. The meeting is slated for Tuesday on the sidelines of a United Nations assembly in News York, Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeina confirmed today. On Monday the President is expected to give a keynote speech at the UN. The PFLP said Sunday that the meeting at the UN General Assembly is a response to US pressure and serves American and Israeli interests. It is particularly glaring, the leftists say, in light of the Netanyahu government’s refusal to respect international law or US demands regarding settlements and the ongoing siege. The PFLP added that by participating, President Abbas is extending a fig leaf, and giving a gift to the Netanyahu government’s ultra-extremism and racism, as described in the UN report on Gaza that was released this week. |
