| Bil’in / Iyad Burnat - Yesterday’s weekly demonstration in Bil'in was inundated with gas, but no arrests were made. One protester was hit directly by a bouncing gas canister, which burned holes in her trousers and caused burns to her skin. Another demonstrator suffered from severe respiratory problems due to gas inhalation. These injuries are a small price to pay, say demonstrators, to exercising the right to protest land confiscation and the building of the Wall on the lands of the western Ramallah village. Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists transmitted their message of resistance to the Israeli soldiers awaiting them on the other side of the Wall, which is a fence in this area. A French delegation, including the Mayor of the city of Kaysersberg, France, came to Bil'in Friday to participate in this weekly nonviolent demonstration, and to learn more about the struggle of resistance in the area. The Palestinian town of Bil’in has been holding demonstrations every Friday for several years. |
