| Gaza / PNN – Though medical supplies and treatment are hard to come by in Gaza, a group of Egyptian doctors is trying to improve conditions in the besieged Palestinian territory. A second contingent of university professors and consultants from Egypt arrived in the Gaza Strip today for a 10-day program aimed at training Palestinian doctors there. The program, which is part of an emergency relief mission, includes Dr. Ashraf Barakat, director of physician training in Gaza; and Drs. Ehab Omran and Mohammed Fadl, both professors of orthopedic surgery. The training project was established after the siege on Gaza for Palestinian doctors in the Strip and the West Bank. Barakat said the project was developed in several stages, beginning with training via video-conference. The project is now in phase two, and Barakat indicated that the third phase will involve bringing several Palestinian doctors to train in Egyptian hospitals and university medical centers. This phase of the project is still being coordinated, he said today. |
