| Bethlehem / PNN - Last Israeli forces confiscated broadcasting equipment from the secondary studios of Radio Bethlehem 2000 in Beit Jala. Five military vehicles raided the studios and took equipment. Station manager George Canawati told the press that at approximately 6:00 Tuesday, Israeli soldiers told a radio technician to dismantle two transmitters. The heavily armed soldiers took the equipment and issued a warning against attempting to start broadcasting again, saying, “We do not like to hear from Bethlehem 2000.” The also threatened to bomb the station if it did not remain closed. Bethlehem 2000 is headquartered in Beit Sahour and was founded in 1996. It has a contract with the BBC to broadcast its news in Arabic, along with its own programming. |
