Palestinian campaign for continued nonviolent resistance against demolition as olive harvest nears

13.09.09 - 22:58

Nablus / PNN – The Palestinian People's Party held a meeting at the leftist movement’s headquarters in the city of Nablus yesterday evening.

The Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements in the Nablus district was part of the northern West Bank meeting, including representatives of NGOs.

All are involved in the combined popular campaign of resistance to the Wall, and a number of activists from different villages in the field provinces were also in attendance.

The discussion centered on preparations for this year’s olive harvest campaign and ways to address the demolition of homes. In Sawiya Village 50 houses are slated for demolition as are dozens in southern Nablus. The meeting reviewed the pace of escalating attacks by settlers on citizens in villages and towns in the Nablus District. This year the month average is 25, including burning villages, vineyards, trees, terrorizing citizens, theft and looting, and road blockages.

Just today in the village of Burin, Israeli settlers attacked residents and blocked the road to the east.

The campaign is looking for as much support as possible to put themselves on the line in nonviolent action.
