International campaign demands assurances that medical and humanitarian goods be allowed into Gaza

In a statement issued by the Campaign, it was noted that of particular concerns are the hundreds of patients deprived of receiving treatment abroad due to the closure of the crossings, leading to death and permanent injury.

Dr. Arafat Madi is the President of the European Campaign to Lift the Siege. In a statement issued from Brussels today he demanded that international humanitarian organizations, especially European, intervene to save patients in the Gaza Strip, and work to send medical aid and medicine into Gaza.

Medical officials in the Gaza Strip continue to note that hospitals are empty of dozens of critical medicines. Dr. Madi said today this “portends the death of more patients, innocent Palestinians, who are deprived of traveling to receive treatment due to the closure of the crossings.”

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has warned of the repercussions of the deficit in the balance of drugs available in the Gaza Strip after running out of a hundred varieties of drugs and a hundred varieties of medical disposables. Within the next three months it is predicted that another 55 varieties of drugs and 61 medical consumables supplied by the Ministry of Health will be missing.

Dr. Madi extended his appeal to Muslims from Europe to fundraise for medical and humanitarian supplies on the occasion of Ramadan, and also called on the Red Cross and UNRWA to play their role in ensuring the introduction of needed goods. Pressure must be placed on the Israelis, he said.

Gaza / PNN – The blockade has not ended in the Gaza Strip and the years continue to pass. Medical supplies, food, construction and raw materials, basic goods and humanitarian supplies remain difficult to come by.

Hundreds of activists and organizations have called for an end to what has been considered by the United Nations, the International Red Cross and others as a disaster.

Today the European Campaign to Lift the Siege on Gaza issued a demand to ensure the continued arrival of medical supplies.

The Gaza Strip has been besieged for more than three years, leading the international and Arab activist organization to note that the living conditions and humanitarian situation for a million and a half Palestinians remains “very dramatic.”
