Jerusalem / PNN - The Revolutionary Women’s Center in Silwan is hosting a day in solidarity with the citizens of Wadi Helwa, south of East Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque.

Silwan was the site of Friday’s shooting by a Jewish settler who left a teenager and an adult hospitalized. The Israeli Magistrate Court released the shooter, while the victims suffer from moderate injuries with gunshots to the abdomen and hip. An organizer at the Tuesday event said, “The situation is still difficult, they remain under treatment and we wish them a speedy recovery.”

President of the Administrative Center for Feminist Revolutionary Sloan, Riham Ziad, said, “This day comes in the light of events in the town of Silwan, the region in general and especially Wadi Helwa. We are emphasizing our solidarity with the people of the neighborhood.”

In a message to the settlers, Ziad said, “We are staying on this ground and we will not leave it, whatever happens.”

Jawad Siyam of the Committee for the Defense of Wadi Helwa added, “The dangers that threaten the region and the protests against them began seven years ago.”

For his part, lawyer from the President’s Office, Ahmed Robi, said that the role of the Revolutionary Women’s Center makes a great difference in the lives of the people.

He urged other organizations to follow suit in dealing directly with the local community in providing assistance and protection of property rights under threat from settler institutions and Israeli officials.
