Report: 4900 Palestinians Detained in Israeli Jails

On the occasion of Palestinian prisoner's day Wednesday 17th April, prisoner Society (PPS) issued a report saying there are 4900 Palestinians detained in Israeli jails, of which 168 are under administrative detention without charge or trial.

The Palestinian people Wednesday marked the annual Palestinian prisoners' day passed by the Palestinian national council in 1974 to consolidate efforts to support prisoners detained in Israeli jails in their struggle and support their right to freedom.

The report showed the high number of children detainees, who did not exceed the age of 18, which reached 235; 35 of them are under the age of 16.

The report said that 523 Palestinian detainees were sentenced to life time in prison or more than one life term.

Meanwhile, the number of sick Palestinian prisoners reached approximately 1200 at the end of last April of 2012, of which 170 are in a serious need of immediate medical surgeries, 85 suffering from different disabilities, and 25 suffering from cancer, said the report.

It said that the number of detainees who died while in Israeli jails reached 204.
