News : Editorial Day of Unity | People across Iran are heading to streets tomorrow to celebrate the triumph in 1979 of the Islamic revolution which toppled the US-backed shah regime and installed the Islamic Republic. Official rallies have been staged every year since 1979 and people throng the streets to renew their support for the Islamic establishment. But this year, the anniversary of the revolution is totally different as the country is still reeling from the unrest that erupted after the June 2009 presidential election. Differences over the official election outcome touched off riots nationwide. Although the election issue was merely a domestic affair, enemies of the Islamic Republic exploited the turmoil in Iran and ratcheted up the pressure on Tehran specially over its disputed nuclear programs and its human rights record. In recent days, all senior officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have called for massive turnout on Thursday. Even the so-called opposition groups have demanded that Iranians march in support of the Islamic Republic. However, the sworn enemies of Iran have embarked on negative propaganda in recent days and weeks to dissuade Iranians from proving their allegiance to the establishment. The sagacious Iranian nation will never be duped as it knows well that the enemies seek their own interests and they never sympathize with people. In view of the sensitive conditions Iran is faced with, political groups and people from any affiliation are invited to rally on 22 Bahman and mark history with their massive presence and show off their unity to the world. | | | |
